A former graduate student at SHU, Alexandra Gizhitsa Anderson traveled back to Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion to rescue her mother, sister and brother as the fighting spread to their home city of Odessa. In the process, Anderson and the people she marshaled to help her ended up evacuating over 300 Ukrainian refugees.
